I've manage to paint only two figures this month. Both are from Zvezda medieval range. I hope photos are better than last time :) .

Linear-A Hannibal Makes a Triumphal Entry in Italy - Part 3

 Here we are with all civilian poses from the set. Great poses overall, but I must admit that I experimented heavily while painting the skin and results are far from satisfactory. I messed up the proportions, resulting in over-highlighted mess :) . Another thing is that I'm slowly loosing interest in ancients, and think it's high time to move on to some other periods (you might have seen some WW2 stuff I posted earlier today). After watching a few of the classic movies like Zulu or Waterloo I think I'm going to tackle XIX century next. That's it for today enjoy!

Linear-A Hannibal Makes a Triumphal Entry in Italy - Part 2

 I'm back with part two of the Linear-A set. This time I painted three out of five poses reflecting barbarian mercenaries fighting for Carthage during Punic wars. I probably won't paint all of the poses, as I simply don't like some of them all that much, but we will see I guess. Enjoy!

Carthaginian Hoplite

I'm here with some more 1/72 ancients, this time I painted a Carthaginian Hoplite. This guy is a tiny conversion from Hat set (He had his arm rearranged). The most interesting part of Carthaginian infantry was their shields, featuring very original and vibrant patterns. I decided to paint white figure on red background, which was associated with Phoenician goddess of war - Tanit. I also experimented with the photos, so please let me know which background do you prefer. Enjoy!

Numidian Cavalry

After busy 5 months I'm finally back to the brushes and painting ancients! But not just any ancients.

I decided to paint myself some numidian cavalry from HAT set. 

Numidians were arguably the best light cavalry in ancient Mediterranean world, with both Rome and Carthage using their service as mercenaries.

In my opinion the hardest part in painting native North Africans is getting the skin color right. I have seen countless examples of numidians, Egyptians and Libyans portrayed with dark, brown or black skin (which is a feature characteristic for sub-saharan peoples such as Nubians). In contrast numidians should be portrayed with skin closer to South European culture group (Spaniards or Italians).
